Occupation: She used to work as a Healer in the Spell Damage Ward, but once Dora was born she quit and ‘worked’ as a full time mother until Dora was sent off to school. Taking care of Dora really was a full time job! But now that Dora is old enough to be at Hogwarts she has taken back her position as Senior Healer in the Spell Damage Ward, specializing in incorrectly applied charms.
Sexuality: Straight
Martial Status: Married to the love of her life, Ted Tonks
Immediate Family:
Mum: Druella (Rosier) Black (Slytherin)
Father: Cygnus Black (Slytherin)
Sisters:
-Bellatrix Black (Slytherin)
-Narcissa Black (Slytherin)
Cousins:
-Sirius Black (Gryffindor)
-Regulus Black (Slytherin)
Relationships with family:
Parents: When she was a child she was very obedient and always strove to make her mother and father proud and happy. She always did what they told her. This made her mother especially thankful about that since Bellatrix was a very hard one to raise and control. So considering her close relationship with he parents, the decision to marry Ted Tonks was not an easy one. She spent days and weeks agonizing over it, knowing the results of her actions. But in the end she could not give up on love and chose Ted over her family’s wishes. Now Andromeda has a strained relationship with her parents regarding her seeming disregard of what she was taught when she was younger and her marriage to Ted Tonks. Despite all the past lectures and distance between them now, Andromeda loves her parents very much and wishes they would just love her back no matter whom she spent her time with or what she believed. She hopes that maybe, just maybe she could reconcile with them but a small part of her knows it will probably be near impossible.
Bellatrix:
Andromeda always had a rough relationship with her older sister. They did get along okay before she came to Hogwarts and didn’t know any better. Even then it was more a measure of cordiality and it was all rather superficial. They would be polite to each other but they were never extremely close. But, once she got to Hogwarts and started socializing with non Purebloods Bellatrix pulled even more away from Andromeda. They rarely spent any quality time together in school as they hung around different circles of friends. As the school years went by they grew even more apart, though still kept a level of cordiality though Bella would tease her from time to time. Andromeda hardly talks to her older sister since she got married and keeps her distance from her. She does still love her as she does her entire family, despite if they believe otherwise.
Narcissa: Andromeda was always closest to Narcissa out of her two sisters. She seemed to be less harsh and brash than Bellatrix and someone she could talk to and spend time with. Andie knew she looked down on her interest in muggleborns/halfbloods, but the mere fact that she still spent some time with her in school meant a lot. She has hopes that maybe Narcissa won’t go the same way as her older sister.
Sirius: He is her favorite cousin and the one family member she spends the most time with. Andromeda loves to joke around with him and play pranks with him. Andromeda would always go visit him whenever her sisters or parents got too much. She knows she could tell him her deepest secrets and be trusted not to tell anyone. Andie loves Sirius and has a very close bond to him. He was the only family member to stand by her when she married Ted and his loyalty and friendship mean a lot to her.
Regulus: Andromeda always rather loved her youngest cousin Regulus. Despite their large age difference she did like to spend time with him and talk to him when she could. She felt bad for all the pressure he was under at home and tried to always be there to listen and talk to him. He was only a young boy when Andromeda left to be with Ted and was rather impressionable. It hurt her that he would stop talking to her as well but she hopes that since he was so young when that happened that he will be less stuck in his ways and more apt to talk to her again.
Loyalty/Alliance: She is very much a supporter of the Order.
Role in the war: She was recruited by Sirius into the Order during the middle of the first way. She would not go on fighting missions but plays more of a role in recruitment, propaganda and also used her healer background to take care of the Order members after battles.
Full Personality: Andromeda is a Slytherin, but she exemplifies a Ravenclaw in many ways, in that she loves to read and usually got top marks in school. Her favorite haunt in Hogwarts was the library or outside by the lake, as she loves the outdoors. She developed a love for Muggle authors in her forth year. Her favorite is Shakespeare, particularly his tragedies, specifically Romeo and Juliet. She was the romantic Black and can be seen as a hopeless romantic. As a child, she followed along with the family loyalty, obedient and tractable, though she respected rather than condemned any that chose to dissent. She is a daydreamer and rather wistful and girly. She is a compassionate and caring person and was always the nicer one out of all the Blacks. If you want a trustworthy person to turn to in hard times, Andie is your girl.
She's a free spirit, with disdain for those who are closed minded and quick to judge. She despises prejudice of any kind, and because of this, she's regarded as weird by her family. Andromeda loves to dance, play pranks, and go horseback riding. She dislikes snobs, prudish people, the cold, and most forms of drugs. Andromeda is fiercely loyal, extremely bold and caring. But, like all Blacks, she can be quick to anger. She is sometimes sensitive about family issues and tends to be hurt too easily. She loves collecting the Chocolate Frog cards and has quite a collection stashed away.
She can be very clumsy. [Hehehe. Yes, it's a family trait!] She learned to control it a bit, but it's still there. She also has a habit of seeming insensitive, but in reality, she's overly sensitive and hides that fact with sarcasm. Her self-image changes from day to day - sometimes making her seem overly confident and sometimes making her too depressed to be confident at all. Andie tends to overly care about what her family thinks of her and she still strives to please them to this day.
But despite all this, she was put in Slytherin for a reason. For her first few years at school she was just as snarky and close minded as Narcissa and Bellatrix. Okay maybe not as much as Bellatrix, but close enough. Her close minded view on people changed midway threw her forth year when she got paired up with a halfblood for a charms class project. By being forced to work with a non Pureblood she was forced to open her eyes and socialize with other people. Being the naturally curious person she is, she wanted to find out what made a halfblood any less of a person than a Pureblood. Slowly she started to realized that they were really not that much different. Andromeda started becoming less harsh and nasty to halfbloods and Muggleborns and made a few friends outside her usual circle of friends. This started to soften her harsh personality until you have her where she is at today.
Ever since she was finally blasted off the family tree, she gets sad and depressed whenever she thinks back to the day when her family learned of her marriage to Ted. Learning that her mother blasted her name of the tree and disowned her really hurt her. She tried for so long to make her family proud and do what would make them happy, but love was the one thing she could not give up on.
Loyalty: Her loyalty lies with her family and her dear friends. She will do anything she can to protect them and keep them safe. She is a very selfless person and thinks of herself last, which can come to hurt her later.
Motivation: Her motivation comes from her husband and daughter. She only has the two of them left and she is driven to do anything to make sure they are okay and safe. She is also motivated by the slight chance to make amends with her family and still holds onto some hope that it could happen one day.
Defining Moment: The defining moment that made Andromeda into the person she is today has to be when she married Theodore. That one action sent her from a life of privilege, to the tougher life she lives in today. She would not take anything back though. She loves her husband and daughter dearly.
Strengths and weaknesses:
Five Positive Traits/Strengths:
1) Openness to other people/ideas
2) Friendliness
3) Intelligence
4) Free Spirit and sense of humour
5) Caring towards her family and people she cares about
Five Negative Traits/Weaknesses:
1) Naive
2) Being Timid
3) Can have a hard time trusting people
4) Has a short patience towards stupidity and some people at times
5) Having a low self esteem
• Mental health: She is quite sane, thank you very much
Appearance:
• Height/weight: 5’7’’/ 120 pounds
• Hair/eyes: Brown/Brown
• Manner of speech: Since she is a Black, she grew up having a rather formal and high class British accent.
• Manner of dress: Now that she is married to Ted she has no need to keep up her formal, extremely prim and proper Pureblood manner of dress. Now her dressing style is rather casual and she feels quite comfortable in a casual pair of trousers, a jumper or a nice shirt. If for some reason she has to dress up she does like simple skirts or spring style dresses. Andromeda still comes off as rather modest as far as her dress style is concerned and never shows off her body unless she is around her husband.
• Physical description: Andromeda has long brown hair that is naturally straight with a slight wave to it if she does not try to dry it. She has almond-shaped brown eyes that always seem to tell a story and can easily show what emotion she is feeling. There is an innocence in those brown eyes of hers that seems to grab people. Andromeda sees herself as too short and wishes she had a taller figure like many of her other classmates. She has a slightly tanned skin tone, as she spent a lot of her time in her youth, walking along the flower beds of the Black family manor and laying there sometimes for hours on end. These days she still loves to be outside and has a love of nature. She always has her wand, family signet ring and a few books on her possession since she loves to read. Her manner of movement is very sleek and sublime, almost graceful. But, she can be clumsy at times though she can't help it.
She is quite pretty but certainly not stunning. She tends to focus on several beauty charms in order to enhance the looks she has. Without the proper beauty charms in place, Andromeda feels very insecure of herself when she compares her looks to her stunning sisters. She was always compared to them by her mum and made to feel as less beautiful since she didn't have the 'natural outstanding beauty' that they obviously had. Andromeda tends to bite her finger nails a lot when nervous, agitated or sometimes for no reason all together. She also has a tendency to blush a lot which makes her embarrassed. She has a warm and inviting smile that lacks in her other older sisters. She was always the more sweet and nice Black sister and it shows when you look at her. You would be shocked to find out that she had Narcissa and Bellatrix as siblings.
• First impression: “She has a rather innocent and inviting look to her.”
History:
Family/childhood: Andromeda was born
Even though she got along with her mother she was closer to her father since he gave her the affection, hugs and amount of love she so desperately craved. Andie loved all the gifts he would surprise her with and treasured each and every doll, piece of jewelry, book, etc she got. When she was younger she loved to sit on his lap while he told her stories and spent time with her. She was the quiet one and was happy to play on her own with her porcelain dolls or read her books. From a young age she loved to read and would ask her mother and father for books as soon as she could read. Her parents pampered and coddled her quite a bit, which she had no problem with.
Since her older sister was quiet different from her, personality, she spent more time with her younger sister Narcissa. They were more similar as far as demeanor was concerned. Andie would spent her time playing dolls or make believe with her. Sometimes she would even act out scenes from the books she would read to her younger sister. She was a soft spoken, but happy child and a delight to be around.
Her parents were very hands on with the three of them and oversaw her education and spent time with her. Druella put Andromda, Bella and Narcissa through finishing school, gave them numerous tutors in language, art, history, music, etc, and taught them to be ladies. She was also raised, like her sisters, by a governess. She was naive to any other views besides what her family engrained in her until she became of age and was sent to Hogwarts.
• School/work: Finally, Hogwarts beckoned to the young girl and despite the fact that the sorting hat told her she would be better in Ravenclaw she did not want to disappoint her family and begged the sorting had to put her in Slytherin. For her four years she was still the snobby, stuck up, bigoted Black just like her other sisters. She knew nothing else but what her parents taught her to believe. She would look down on anyone who was not pureblood and only really socialize with other Slytherins. Despite all this she was less apt to name call them and would rather ignore them than anything else.
That all started to change mid way threw her fourth year when she got paired up with a half-blood Gryffindor for a Charms project. Threw this forced pairing she slowly started to see that non Purebloods were not awful. True to her inquisitive nature, she became curious about muggles and wanted to know why her family hated them so much, since she had met many muggles and halfblood who were starting to change her view on them. Her family and sisters did not like her curiosity and the path she was starting to go down. She then started making many friends with people of all houses and blood types. Sirius helped introduce her to many of his friends and really helped open her eyes. She was close to Sirius and respected his opinions and anything he told her.
It was in her fifth year when she started developing a crush on Ted Tonks all thanks to her being named Slytherin Prefect and the many Prefect meetings, rounds she had with him. She kept this a secret from her sisters and tried not to pursue it since she her parents would not be happy with her if she even thought of going on a date with him. Finally, the end of her sixth year, she finally gave into her feelings and Ted’s advances and went on a date with him. One date turned into another and another until they had a secret relationship building. They did break up briefly in her seventh year when she sisters finally caught on to what was going on. After a few weeks apart she realized that had to choose between love and family. Being the hopeless romantic she is, she choose love. That choice sent her down the road she is going down now.
Her cousin Sirius, calls Andromeda his favorite cousin and she always greatly enjoyed his company, much to her family's dismay. To get away from her newly antagonizing sisters and over-demanding parents she would spend endless hours with Sirius. She liked to play silly pranks along with her cousin from time to time as she always loved a good laugh.
• Recent history: Once Andromeda graduated, she knew she did not want to just be a socialite and applied for Healer training. She got accepted, thanks to her studious nature and caring spirit. She knew she loved Ted and wanted to be with him but wanted to be sure she had something to go home to, so she waited for him to secure a job and a house for the both of them. Finally, the months ticked on and it was time for her to make the decision that would change the rest of life. It was NOT a decision she took lightly. She knew that by choosing to be with Ted, that she was dooming herself to a much harder, less privileged life. She adored her mother and especially her father and she agonized for weeks until she realized she would be utterly miserable without Ted Tonks in her life. She told her mother and father she wanted to be Ted and was immediately burned off the family tapestry.
She moved in with Ted and was married quickly after that. Andie busied herself with healer training and starting her new life with Ted. She loved her husband more than words could express. She had to really love him for give up so much to be with him. Her love for him has only grown as the years tick by.
They had been trying to have children and finally six years ago she gave birth to her only child Nymphadora Tonks. She is the apple of Andie’s eye and was quite a handful to take care of given her precocious and sometimes clumsy nature. Andie had to keep a close eye on her since she has lost count of the number of times she last broken a bone or something fragile of some sort. Andie had to take leave from work since raising Dora was a full time job, but they still asked her to come and take shifts when absolutely needed.
She still hopes to reconnect with her family, especially Narcissa and Regulus. She knows reconciling with Bella and her parents will be especially difficult and believes it will be easier to start with Narcissa and Regulus first. Along with all this, there was the first war that was building and she grew more worried for her family as the days went by. It was during the first war that her cousin Sirius noticed how his older cousin was, left at home all day with only Dora to occupy her time with, and he thought that she could be of good use in the Order. Also he felt that having something useful to do would be good for her. He gradually dropped hints about the Order to see what she thought of it, until he finally invited her to join. She accepted the offer and became an Order member.
Once she was in the Order, she was able to put her energy to good use. Instead of spending hours worrying endlessly about her family and friends, she put it to use helping the Order in any way she could. She put herself to use as trying her best to spread the word about injustices created by the death eaters and Voldemort. She was able to put her healer background to good use and proved her worth to the Order by nursing the injured Order members back to health after battles. She balanced this along with raising her daughter. Andromeda felt she was finally useful in something other than being a wife and a mother. She knew that the Order could protect her family and that she was fighting for the right cause. That was why she was overjoyed in 1981 when Voldemort was defeated. She hoped that with Voldemort gone, she would not have to worry about anything happening to her family or her friends.
The years seemed to fly by until 1983 when Dora was finally old enough to go to Hogwarts. It was hard to be separated from her daughter since she had always been around her. She could not believe how fast she had grown and it was tearful seeing her daughter wave by to her on the train to Hogwarts. But she was quite proud that her daughter got sorted into Hufflepuff. She knew her daughter could do anything she set her mind to.
Now that her daughter was back at school, she went back to work and took up her position as senior Healer in the spell damage ward, specializing in incorrectly applied charms. It made Andromeda happy to be back at work since she had missed being at St. Mungo’s. Healing and taking care of people always made her life worth something. Despite all this happiness, she still longed for the day that she could make up with her family once more. The distance between her and her parents, sisters and dear younger cousin killed her on the inside and she has never given up hope that one day things could be mended.
